Toxic Goal #2 - "I want to impress"

Posted by netrix
Published on 21 December 2016

There's nothing wrong with impressing your audience, by the way. Congratulations - great job. That's because of your planning, preparation and practice and great delivery. Just don't make impressing your goal. If that's what you have in mind, all it takes is a slight falter to knock you off course. If you have built trust and rapport with the audience, there's nothing for you to worry about.

If you do falter, take a breath and a moment or two to calm yourself.  Perhaps take a sip of water and slow down. Get some oxygen in and focus on lining your thoughts up coherently. Slow it down and take your time. Your audience will have forgotten that moment in a few seconds anyway. They have more important things to concern themselves with.
