The College of Public Speaking Olympiad May 29th 2010

The College of Public Speaking is always looking to sponsor initiatives that makes speaking enjoyment accessible to all. In the format of the Speaking Olympiad, four prominent speaking organisations came together under the same roof to explore four alternative speaking styles in friendly competition. The process created a powder keg of scintillating speaking, the outcome an explosion, a veritable festival of speaking excellence played out in front of an appreciative audience of seventy people.

The independent judges drawn from four speaking organisations, led by Speakers Trust Chairman, David Thompson had an arduous task in coming to a decision. Runners-up were the SpeakersBank team (Michael Ronayne, Elaine Powell and Chris Billington) picture bottom left. The worthy winners were from Toastmasters (picture bottom right - David Jones, Laura McCracken and Paul Carroll).

The team representing the ASC were James McGinty, Mike Douse and Barry Miles (picture top left). The team representing the Society of Cogers were David Kerry, Caroline Sinclair and Bill Moss (picture top right).

There was also an award for Michael Ronayne as best individual speaker on the day. Michael was not due to be speaking originally, but due to a late withdrawal from one of the SpeakersBank team, he stepped in at short notice. Caroline Sinclair also received an award and was acknowledged by the judges for her outstanding contributions throughout the day.

The College of Public Speaking is indebted to our network of friends who organised and coordinated their teams. We feel the same towards all the judges and volunteers whose willing contributions made this such an outstanding speaking occasion. We extend our thanks to Gwyn Redgers who devised the programme and skilfully pulled it all together on the day.
