The Centre for Speech and Debate coordinates the English-Speaking Union's work in persuasive spoken English, and is the world leader in providing English language support for the use of debate and extended speech in an educational context. The Centre administers the John Smith Memorial Mace, the Schools Mace, the Public Speaking Competition for Schools and the National Mooting Competition. We provide debate training to teachers and students in the UK and abroad through a range of programmes, including Discover Your Voice, Debate Academy, the Speech and Debate Squad, and our website BritishDebate.com. The Centre has also run the UK and US annual debate exchange since 1922, and selects and coaches the England Schools Debating team.
